This creamy dulce de leche mousse has only 3 ingredients and is easily made in a few minutes. A perfect dessert for effortless entertaining!

Three serving glasses of Dulce de leche mousse on a white marble surface with dulce de leche dripping on top.

Unlike traditional mousse that's made with eggs, this dulce de leche mousse recipe is egg-free and much simpler to make.

This creamy mousse recipe is one of the easiest on my blog since it only has 3 ingredients. It's a type of caramel mousse, but without eggs or egg whites.

Dulce de leche has a rich flavor that I love! I use it in my Easy Apple Rose Tart. Dulce de leche is amazing with apples!

If you like easy mousse dessert recipes or heavy cream dessert recipes, in general, I think you'll really like this one, too!

Love no bake desserts? Try my 3 Ingredient Oreo Cake, my No-bake Strawberry Dessert Cups, or my Cheater's Chocolate Mousse.

What is the difference between caramel and dulce de leche? Is dulce de leche like caramel?

Although both are similar, they are not the same and they actually taste different, too. Caramel, like my homemade salted caramel sauce, is made mainly with sugar, heavy cream and some butter.

Dulce de leche, on the other hand, is basically caramelized milk made from sweetened condensed milk. I also think that another main difference is that dulce de leche is a bit richer and sweeter than caramel.

Why you’ll love this dulce de leche mousse

  • You only need 3 ingredients. All the ingredients are easy to find.
  • It's quick & practically fool-proof. Not only does this recipe have a short prep time, it's also incredibly easy, too, so it's a great recipe for beginners.
  • It's egg-free. There are no eggs in this recipe, so it's great for those who have an egg intolerance or an allergy.
  • You won't have extra dulce de leche. I adapted this recipe so that you can use up a whole can of dulce de leche, without having any leftover.
  • It's perfect for special occasions. This easy dulce de leche cream mousse is a great way to end a meal, especially for dinner parties or other occasions.

What does this dulce de leche mousse taste like?

This mousse is lusciously rich and creamy. The tanginess of the cream cheese really balances out the sweetness of the dulce de leche. It also has a rich caramel flavor.

What you'll need

Ingredients for Dulce de leche mousse

Labeled ingredients for dulce de leche mousse.
Just 3 ingredients!
  • Dulce de leche: I use a whole can of store-bought dulce de leche.
  • Heavy whipping cream: You'll need full-fat heavy cream, otherwise it won't whip into a beautiful whipped cream mousse. I haven't tried this mousse without heavy cream.
  • Cream cheese: You'll also need full-fat cream cheese. I haven't tried this recipe with low fat cream cheese, so I don't know how it will turn out.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for quantities.

I love using cream cheese in desserts, especially when making easy mousse fillings.

For example, in my Easy Strawberry Charlotte cake, there's a delicious cream cheese mousse cake filling which is out of this world! Definitely give it a try!

Equipment you'll need

  • large mixing bowls
  • a hand mixer or stand mixer
  • 4 small serving glasses or tulip jars (I use Weck (220 ml/7.4 oz)

How to make easy dulce de leche mousse

Step-by-step Instructions

TOP TIP

Before whipping the cream, I like to put a metal bowl in the freezer for a few minutes. This will really help the cream to whip up faster.

Whipping heavy cream in a metal mixing bowl with a hand mixer.

First, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Set it aside.

Mixing dulce de leche and cream cheese in a bowl with a hand mixer.

In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and half of the dulce de leche together with a hand mixer until it's creamy. Don't overmix it, you just want to combine the two.

Folding whipped cream with dulce de leche and cream cheese mixutre with a rubber spatula.

Gradually fold in the whipped cream. I do this in 2 batches.

A serving glass with dulce de leche on the bottom and dulce de leche mousse on the top.

Fill the bottom of the glass with some of the remaining dulce de leche. Then spoon some mousse on top.

Then drizzle some more dulce de leche on top.

TOP TIP

To make the dulce de leche runnier and perfect for drizzling, I just whisk it in a bowl until it's smooth.

Recipe Notes

Make ahead options

You can easily make this recipe up to 2 days in advance.

Freezing Instructions

I've never frozen this mousse, but I don't see why it can't be frozen.

Variations

  • You can fill your glasses with a small layer of cookie crumbs and then add the mousse.
  • You can top the mousse with some grated dark or white chocolate. This mousse is also amazing with some unsweetened cocoa powder on top.
  • For added texture, you can add some chopped nuts, too. I've also made this mousse with chopped almonds on top and lightly dusted with cinnamon.

Storage Tips

You can store this mousse in the refrigerator for up to about 4 days. I like to cover it with plastic wrap.

Tips for success

  • Make sure you use full fat heavy cream. Otherwise, it won't whip into whipped cream.

Frequently asked questions

Does dulce de leche taste like condensed milk?

Dulce de leche tastes very similar to caramel, but it's richer and much creamier. It doesn't taste like sweetened condensed milk straight out of the can.

How can I use dulce de leche?

There are so many ways you can use dulce de leche. I love it in my Banoffee pie cups and easy apple rose tart. You can also swirl it on brownies or cake slices or spread some between sugar cookies, It's also delish when added to smoothies or on top of your favorite ice cream, especially vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy!

I have a detailed picture tutorial in my post to help you out with each step of the recipe as well as lots of tips to ensure success.
Baking Measurements
I have used weight measurements for all the recipes on this website. Even though I have also included American volume measurements for convenience, I highly recommend using a digital kitchen scale to weigh all ingredients for the most accurate measurements. Digital kitchen scales are more precise than cups, which is so important in baking, and they give the most accurate, consistent results. Happy baking!
